I discover something new everyday on my twitter network, whether it be new followers, great design or fascinating stories. A couple of weeks ago Martin from the chic-shack.com asked if he could send me a cushion so I could get to know his company and the quality of his products. I was honoured and shortly after received this beautiful birdcage cushion.
I believe Martin is the best person to tell you his story. “I have been an upholsterer for 27 years. I have worked as an employed upholsterer making furniture for some of the most prestigious stores in the UK including Harrods, John Lewis and many specialist furniture stores. I decided to start my own business in 2011. I started making cushions with various designs and sold them via the usual auction sites. They sold extremely well from the start, so much so on the 1st January 2012 chic-shack.com was launched. I now have 3-3500 visits a month.”
Having met Martin on Twitter I wanted to know how his twitter journey started and if he felt it has aided his business? “I decided from the beginning that as far as advertising was concerned I would take advantage of social media. I regularly tweet on Twitter and in a little under 2 years I now have 9239 followers and 1035 Likes on my Facebook page. I’m a firm believer in what you put in you get out. When a new design is made and photographed I tweet it and within seconds it’s being retweeted around the world!”
And finally to cushions, what type of cushions can you find in his collection? “As for cushion ranges, my most popular are now the personalised cat and dog designs. A wide choice of breeds with your own pet’s name added. The personalised VW Campervan cushions are also great sellers. You can add any name as a number plate on these. I have a wide range of fabric colours and the designs themselves are available in up to 15 colours. So there is something there for everybody.”
