It is that time of year, where once again I head north to Birmingham NEC to see what wonderful finds await me at Grand Designs Live. For those of you that don’t know, Grand Designs Live is the ultimate destination for home owners and self-builders, due to the range of innovative and inspirational ideas across the now four day show, from interiors to build, gardens to bathrooms and kitchens. What makes this show special is the wealth of expert advice on hand. Our friend, Liz Ackerley from Poppyhead Consultancy was one of the experts in Ask the Expert area. I got chance to quickly catch up with Liz, who told me she had seen a whole range of people from all over the UK, her skills were very much in demand.
Amazing Spaces hero, George Clark and Mr Grand Design himself, Kevin McCloud, provided detailed advice on the main stage.
Found hidden in a small area in the unlikely Tech Zone, were couple of stunning pieces from lighting designers. Tom Raffield is a designer we have featured before, but I never get tired of his Bloom Pendant.
We also met Alkesh Parmar who designs and creates light pendants from champagne corks. A lighting company that was in great demand in the Designers Arcade was Jam Jar Lights, here you could buy ready made kits to create your own inspired designs.
The food demonstrations are another way of getting your taste buds excited. The Grand Design celebrity experts all take their turn to show off their culinary skills. We managed to catch renowned interior designer, Jo Hamilton impressing us with her baking skills. I wonder, could we see her on Celebrity Great British Bake Off in the future?
